preIB 2011/2012

A Very First Semester

Just a while ago we all came to school as newcomers and now a semester of work has been completed! It seems like just yesterday when everything seemed so new and unfamiliar, and now we know our way around the corridors, we know how to find the right classrooms and when to buckle down to work . The whole class finally managed to get to know each other better and realize that first impressions can be extremely misleading. Everybody started to bond and make plans for the IB program. We are really excited to join it. We keep studying hard to finish the first year with the best scores possible. We are also preparing for it by doing CAS. It helps us take part in new and creative forms of spending our free time. At school there have been many interesting events too. We visited the theatre and the cinema, took part in some teach-ins about certain subjects connected with our lessons. The teachers already know our names, first friendships and alliances were made. We got our final grades and fortunately passed.
The first weeks were mostly about getting used to the high school life, but at some point we started to feel a growing bond with Topolowka. After the ‘otrzęsiny’ event we officially became rightful students. Then the tests started and we were in two minds about it. We got our first 1’s and 6’s and learned how not to worry too much and keep the balance between our social lives and us getting decent grades. Finally, it stabilized and became our everyday reality. Now, 1preIB is finishing its first semester and preparing for even harder work and more fun together than before, in the second one. We are all looking forward to the upcoming weeks, months and hopefully …years here.

Christmas Eve

On the 22th of December we celebrated „Christmas Eve” in our school. We didn’t have any lessons so we could fully enjoy this party. Everyone of us was supposed to bring something with him, we talked about it a week before. Some of us prepared some delicious food- we had cookies, cakes, pasta, salads- all of them were lovely. Others brought candles and a tablecloth. The day before we decorated our classroom. When we prepared everything, it looked magical. We met at 9 o’clock, shared wafers. It was really nice, because after this one semester we enjoyed talking with each other and wishing nice things. We already share some memories and have common subjects. That’s why this “Christmas eve” wasn’t boring for us. We enjoyed it and will surely remember it.

A little bit of cleaning the world

On the 10th of November during the Physical education Lesson our class took part in the ‘Cleaning the world’ action, held in our school. Our duty was to clean a part of the school court. We were given rakes and plastic bags and were collecting the leaves from the school property. It turned out that we are quite good in raking leaves and we have done some really good job. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed this unusual PE lesson :)

Theather 2011

A few days ago, on the 22nd of November our class went to the theater. We went to ‘Off De Bicz’ in Sopot and took part in a ‘lesson’ organized by the theater. First, we saw a play. It was an interpretation of ‘Elektra’ by Sofokles. It was quite controversial, as the characters were portrayed as hen and chicken, roosting. There weren’t many decorations, just the perch the hen were sitting at. We liked the effect when actors were sprinkling rice all over the scene. The part that caused most discussions in our class was when someone threw a dead chicken into the audience. It landed under the seat of one girl from our class. After the play, we were given a lecture about the play, and the original ‘Elektra’ by Sofokles. The play ended earlier than we expected. On the next day, our class had a discussion about this play. We agreed on many matters, not all of us liked everything about this play. However, we enjoyed this day, it was a nice break from studying.

Otrzęsiny 2011

Right now, we know everyone in the class and we help each other with homework and such stuff. As a class we’re accordant, but there was an event that connected us even more. That event was ‘otrzesiny’.otrz1

In the very last minutes of chemistry (lesson right before this event) we started to seriously think about how we wanted to present our class in front of the others. After lots of ideas (more or less suiting the subject ‘countryside wedding party’) we spread around the school and shopping centres located nearby. We gathered up only a few minutes before the start. At first, we had to eat a piece of bread with some weird substance on it (to this day we aren’t sure what was it). Then every class had to do their presentation. In our honest opinion, compared to other classes our show was quite good( especially for something arranged in about 10 minutes and almost completely improvised). After that, the whole event went extremely fast. There was a race in sacks, then a ‘countryside quiz’, peeling the potatoes and other strange things. We had a lot of fun and ‘otrzęsiny’ caused many emotions. However, some of us will remember only throwing a peeled potato at each other. At the end, after the results were given (the Spanish class won – congratulations), some of us joined dancing, others left in a good mood. We enjoyed this event a lot, even if the ‘sandwiches’ given to us at the beginning were disgusting.

Stegna 2011

integracja1We’ve been a class for less than a month and we already share many memories. Some of us managed to meet during the summer holidays, therefore coming to the new school didn’t feel that weird. We’re a very diverse class, but it doesn’t change the fact that we get on well(at least as yet).

In Stegna we had a chance to get to know each other better. On the workshops we could prove our abilities in co-operating with new friends. Our form teacher managed to find time for every individual so we could integrate with her as well (we would like to send our regards to Ms. Zander here). Thanks to the activity she prepared for us, we remembered a few characteristic things concerning people from our class. We joined our forces and prepared a presentation about our class for the competition. Unfortunately, we didn’t win.
